I’m the ANTI wine snob. I’m always on the lookout for those priced well-under $10 … I call them Tuesday-night wines. That’s because you don’t think twice about opening them on a Tuesday night (or a Wednesday, or a Thursday, etc). I haven’t had much luck with the under $5 wines — guess I’m just not cheap enough?
My latest find — a fruity Pinot Noir from CA’s The Naked Grape. It’s a medium-bodied wine, not too drying on the tongue (non-astringent? non-tannic?), and pretty versatile, as are most of the pinots I consume. I pay about $7 at the local grocery store. So definitely a Tuesday-night wine (yes, I realize today is Monday).
Standard caveat: This is a personal recommendation. The Naked Grapers don’t know I exist and have provided neither product nor compensation for this endorsement. In fact, they’ll probably sue me if this ever gets in a search engine.
Michelle – I’m with you! Buying those wines under $10 leaves enough in your piggy bank for splurging once in a while. And, it’s a great feeling to roll up to checkout with a dozen bottles of wine and pay under $100 for the collection! Thanks for the recommendation and I will definitely seek out The Naked Grape the next time I’m restocking. Does The Naked Grape offer any other reds?
They offer a Cab, Malbec, and red blend. They also offer a Chardonnay that is either unoaked or lightly oaked which was really nice too. Let us know if you like them!!
Oh puh-lease, why waste your hard earned $10 bucks on a bottle of Monday – Friday wine, when you can get a CASE of Tinsdale Cabernet Sauvignon from Whole foods for the insane price of $35 bucks. Keep in mind, I answer interchangeably to the names ‘Julie’ and ‘Classy’ so this notch above Franzia is right up my alley (after all, there IS a cork involved).
